THE INSTITUTE ( IOIRHT):

The Institute is functioning as an Autonomous Institution constituted under the Indian Act 2 of 1882 dedicated to turn out skilled Optometrists for providing specialized opto-visual services in the field of visual impairment since 1932. In fact, this is the solitary institute in India conducting LOI, DOS, DCLP, D. Orth, DBOS, B.S ( Optom) and M.S ( Optom) Courses. It is recongnised by The Indian Optometrical Society, which on the other hand, is an Associate Member to the World Council of Optometry ( USA), since 1972.

To start with The IOIRH Trust used to organised a 2 year couse on Optometry and from 1980-96 a 4 year training in general Optometry for B.Sc, candidates leading to DOS(PG Diploma in Doctor of Optometrical Science). In addition to above, there are also some post DOS courses like DCLP and D. Orth for Specialisation in Optometry on Contact Lenses and Orthoptics respectively. Besides these, a special course on Optometry of one year duration was also introduced leading to the same qualification DOS for registered physicians in 1981 ( This is a course still now peerless in India or abroad).

In 1997, All India Institute of Optometrial Sciences ( AIIOS), the newly set up academic unit of IOIRHT for further upgradation and standardisation of the profession of Optometry. The courses have ben revised accordingly. Different professional degree and Post Graduate Diploma programs in optometry were also revised as per ever increasing need of the professionals.
