  1. 4&1/2 YEARS PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

    BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN OPTOMETRY B.S. (Optometry)

     

    E L I G I B I L I T Y

Candidates should have completed 10+2 level with Pure Science/Bio-Science Subjects/B.Sc. With Physics, Chemistry , Math./Physiology/Zoology from any recongnised Board/Council/University.

 

PRE-PROFESSIONAL LEVEL 6 months duration

 

Basic Sciences in relation with vision.

Introduction of Anatomy, Physiology , Embryology, Bio-chemistry in relation with optometry. 

Communicative English, basics of professional development, History of Optometry and basic ideas on core subjects of Optometry.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEGREE PROGRAM leading to B.S.( Optometry)

4 years duration

 

Basic Sciences

General & Ocular Anatomy including Surface Anatomy & Physiology including Clinical Physiology, Pathology including Micro-Biology, General & Ocular Pharmacology, Preventive & Social Medicine.


Special Sciences

Physical, Geometrical & Environmental Optics, Ophthalmic Lenses and Dispensing Optics, Recognition & Management of Ocular Diseases, Physiological & Visual Optics, Physiology of Vision, Clinical Optometry, Orthoptics & Vision Therapy, Pharmacology & Ocular side effects of various drugs, Psychology and Psychophysics of Vision, Low Vision and its Management, Preventive Optometry & Visual Rehabilitation.

Professional Management

Practice Management, Advance Professional Development, Basic Entrepreneurship Development, Professional Ethics, Optometric Jurisprudence, Professional Accounting Ideas and *Computers.

Attendance of the clinics/Hospitals

It is mandatory for the students of third and fourth year to attend the various clinics and hospitals as directed by the authority of the institute for enhancement of clinical knowledge through observations.

Field work / Mass Contact / Training / Projects

the students have to undergo various field work, mass contacts to build up their social attitudes and responsibilities for serving the suffering masses. They have to attend seminars, conferences, eye care camps, exhibitions, vision screening programs and other social and institutional activities as directed by the authority. It is mandatory for all the final year students to submit clinically relevant projects as per guidence of the faculties.

“ A certificate in computer operations including office package, internet and e-mail is mandatory to produce before appearing for the final year examination from any school. Candidates already possessing such certificate need not undergo any further courses in computer.



2. A SPECIAL COURSE IN GENERAL OPTOMETRY FOR MEDICAL GRADUATES AND M.Sc. LEADING TO DOS ( Diplomate of doctors' Council of Optometrical Sciences)

FOR SPECIALISATION TO RENDER PROPER SERVICES IN THE FIELD OF OPTOMETRY EYE & VISION CARE WITHOUT SURGERY

 MBBS/BHMS/BAMS

M.Sc. With Physics/Physiology/Zoology

Duration : 1 year (part time)

3. D.C.L.P.

( Diploma in Contact lens Practice)

ELIIGIBILITY : B.S. (Optometry)/DOS /DO/MS(Ophthal.) or Equivalent

Duration – 20 weeks(part time)

4. M.S.(Optometry)

(Master of Science in Optometry)

ElIIGIBILITY : Graduate in Optometry

Duration – 2 years (Part time)

5. D.ORTH

(Diploma in Orthopetics)

ELIGIBILTY : B.S (Optometry)/DOS/DO/MS(Ophthal) or Equivalent

Duration - 50 weeks (part time course)

6. D.B.O.S

(Diploma in Behavioral Optometrical Science)

ELIGIBILTY : B.S. (Optom.) DOS, or equivalent

Duration - 50 weeks (part time course)

The course nos. 3 to 5 are conducted only when admission isintimated by the authority with due notice.

 

 ADVANCES STUDIES:

 Successful scholars having high ambition can persue higher education and research work in Optometry abroad. In India, at present one year fellowship for further training is availiable with Stipend.


The fellowships can be done at L.V.Pradad Eye Institute , Hyderbad and at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai Under Orbis Foundation International.
